Story Overview

A young sapling sprouts—excited about its new world and eager to connect with all living things that pass by. But human beings are always too busy.

So, the sapling patiently waits… and watches… for a thousand years.

Follow its magical journey as:

  • Humanity evolves

  • Trees begin to slowly disappear

  • The world changes beyond recognition

Until… far in the future, a girl discovers the seeking tree. With your help, she just might change the course of history!

In the late 1700s, a sapling wants to enjoy the company of all other living creatures. While most animals pause to sit with the small tree, humans—first Native hunters, then European settlers, and later Puritan home builders—do not.

In a repeated refrain, the seeking tree asks:
"Will you sit with us?"
And an older voice of the forest answers:
"They are busy, Young One."

Over time, the tree grows more frustrated as the forest around it is cleared—first for farmland, then for cities, and finally for a futuristic megalopolis.

In this final setting, the lonely tree is approached by a human family in space suits. They sit with the tree and gather its seeds, holding hope for the future.

  • Illustrations by Dee and Oldaker highlight the natural world's beauty, even as it diminishes page by page.

  • The repeated refrain and emotional journey make the message clear: we must pause to appreciate and protect nature.

  • An accessible call to action for young readers about environmental care and the importance of trees.
