About the Author

Richard Adams - Author

Richard Adams (1920–2016) was an English novelist best known for Watership Down. Educated at Bradfield College and Worcester College, Oxford, he served during the Second World War before joining the British civil service in 1948. He completed Watership Down, his first novel, in the mid-1960s, though the manuscript faced repeated rejection before publication. The novel went on to win both the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize for 1972. His other works include Shardik, The Plague Dogs, The Girl in a Swing, Maia, and Tales from Watership Down.
